Google is now the latest company from Silicon Valley who might have had a hand in influencing the 2016 election. USA intelligence agencies have concluded that Moscow's goal was to help elect Donald Trump. Facebook said they are still conducting the enquiry and are looking at thousands of more ads that seems to bear the same overtures of a possible Russian Federation link. According to lawmakers and researchers, the company employs hundreds of "trolls" to post fake or discredited content from phony social media accounts posing as United States or European citizens.
Investigators have previously concluded Russian companies with ties to the Kremlin bought at least $100,000 in ads on Facebook, potentially reaching 10 million Americans. Facebook has said those ads reached just 10 million of the 210 million USA users that log onto the service each month. The Washington Post was the first to report that Russians also purchased ads on Google.
Facebook had said that it had found that an operation likely based in Russian Federation spent $100,000 on thousands of US ads promoting divisive social and political messages in a two-year-period through May.
