A military judge in North Carolina gave Bergdahl a dishonorable discharge, reduced his rank to private, and ordered that $10,000 of his pay be forfeited according to the Associated Press.

He was brought home by the Obama administration in May 2014 in a controversial exchange for five Guantanamo Bay detainees.

According to The Washington Post, Nance told Bergdahl during the defense's closing remarks Thursday that a dishonorable discharge from the Army would be "socially stigmatizing".

Donald Trump calls for death penalty for NYC truck attack suspect
The plan was carried out on Halloween because he believed there would be more people on the street, investigators said. He also said that he had been inspired by watching Islamic State videos and began planning the attack a year ago.

He pointed out that not only were US soldiers killed and injured searching for Bergdahl, but the prisoner exchange just encourages our enemies to engage in hostage-taking in the future.

The prosecution initially sought a sentence of 14 years in prison, with Bergdahl's attorneys appealing for dishonorable discharge instead.

"Get a slap on the wrist, no jail time", Watters said. He had faced up to life in prison after pleading guilty to desertion and misbehavior before the enemy. They also took aim at President Trump for his commentary on the case.

Abbott's communications director tweeted that the governor is headed to Sutherland Springs for a briefing and media availability. May God be w/ the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas. "I am monitoring the situation from Japan", Trump said in a tweet.

Furthermore, the military investigator that had spoken to Bergdahl during his return to the USA said that the soldier did not deserve further punishment due to the abuse he suffered under Taliban captivity. They cited soldiers who were injured when they searched for Bergdahl.

Nance's Friday sentence will be reviewed by Gen. Robert B. Abrams, who convened the court-martial, with the possibility of lessening the punishment but not increasing it. "As everyone knows he was a captive of the Taliban for almost five years, and three more years have elapsed while the legal process unfolded".

Bergdahl's attorney, who kicked off the sentencing hearing on October 23 with a motion to dismiss the case, pushed for no jail time for his client in light of Trump alluding to critical comments of his client on the campaign trail in December 2015.

For work, Bergdahl already has a job offer from an animal sanctuary, and a military official who helps design survival training says he would like to use Bergdahl as a part of lectures to service members on how to survive captivity.
