A man was arrested and charged with assaulting and injuring Rand Paul.

Boucher's attorney told CBS News in a statement that the "unfortunate occurrence of November 3rd has absolutely nothing to do with either's politics or political agendas". Kentucky State Troopers said the neighbor, Rene Albert Boucher, "intentionally assaulted" the senator.

His neighbor, Rene Boucher, 59, was charged with one count of fourth-degree assault causing minor injury and has since been released on bond, Reuters reports.

The attack left the Republican with five broken ribs, lung contusions and injuries to his face.

Peskov added: "Any accusation that has been put forward in some internal USA investigation against USA citizens has nothing to do with us".

The motivate for the assault is not yet known.

"This type of injury is caused by high velocity severe force", Stafford said in a statement to Fox News. It did note that Boucher and Paul have been next-door neighbors for 17 years, and said that the two, both physicians, had worked together when they were both practicing.

"Two Kentuckians tell me Rand's neighborhood fracas stemmed from a dispute over some sort of planting or flora issue around the properties", Martin tweeted.

It isn't clear when Paul will return to work since he is in considerable pain and is having difficulty getting around.

US Army's Bergdahl spared prison time for deserting
He was brought home by the Obama administration in May 2014 in a controversial exchange for five Guantanamo Bay detainees. He had faced up to life in prison after pleading guilty to desertion and misbehavior before the enemy.

Boucher allegedly tackled Paul from behind and forced him to the ground, according to the arrest warrant.

At the time of the assault, Paul had "trouble breathing due to a potential rib injury", according to a criminal complaint filed in Warren County District Court. An automated phone system at the jail did not provide access to lawyer information for Boucher.

Paul reportedly told police that Boucher tackled him from behind. He sold his invention on QVC, the home shopping channel.

The Daily Caller noted that Boucher had been a registered Democrat and shared a post from his Facebook page "citing left-wing academic Noam Chomsky's criticism of the Republican party". Both Capitol Police and the FBI are investigating the incident.

In a fourth tweet, Trump alleged that "the real story on Collusion" is the fundraising agreement noted in Brazile's book. Trump and his campaign are subjects of a wide-ranging investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller.

The FBI is assisting state and local authorities to see whether there were any violations of federal law, but an FBI spokesman declined to comment Monday on a possible motive.
