  • Maryland women's basketball and football post record Graduation Success Rates

The NCAA developed the Division I Graduation Success Rate in response to college and university presidents who wanted graduation data that more accurately reflect the mobility among all college students today, as the Graduation Success Rate accounts for the academic outcomes of student-athletes who transfer from one institution to another. This year's rate is based on the average of student-athletes who enrolled in 2007, 2008, 2009 and the most recent data of 2010 and also graduated within six years following their enrollment.

Implemented 13 years ago by the NCAA, field hockey and women's tennis continued their streak of 13-straight seasons with a 100 percent GSR.

Rutgers earned an overall GSR of 85, one point lower than the four-year GSR average for all member schools, and a FGR of 70 percent, two points higher than the national average.

"Our coaches and staff emphasize graduating our student-athletes from the moment they arrive on campus", Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich said.

Texas Tech announced on Wednesday that its athletic department finished the 2016-17 year with an 82 percent graduation success rate. Six teams have a 100 percent GSR: men's fencing, rifle, pistol, men's volleyball, women's tennis and women's volleyball. Five public universities - South Carolina, Missouri, LSU, Mississippi State and Alabama - graduated at least 90 percent of their athletes.

Purdue female student-athletes were particularly impressive, with a GSR of 94 percent, while male student-athletes achieved a GSR of 78 percent.

Rutgers' GSR figure ranks tied for sixth among Big Ten football programs and tied for 35th nationally among Football Bowl Subdivision teams. Men's basketball federal rate was a 42-point improvement over the federal rate of 33 while women's basketball improved on the federal rate of 47 by 43 points.

At 88 percent, Georgia Tech's GSR surpasses the Division I average of 87 percent, which is also an all-time record.

Gay Talese tells Kevin Spacey's alleged victims to "suck it up"

Women's basketball and women's tennis have had a flawless GSR the past 12 years.

The GSR does not penalize institutions for athletes who transfer in good academic standing.

This calculation makes it a more complete and accurate look at student-athlete success.

Five additional teams - women's cross country/track (96), swimming (95), softball (92), volleyball (92) and women's basketball (90) - earned a score of 90 percent-or-higher.
