  • Sen. Rand Paul R-Ky. speaks during a news conference on Capitol Hill in Washington. Paul says he ended up with six broken ribs after a bizarre attack by his neighbor last week while he was mowing his lawn. Paul writes

The suspect's attorney Matt Baker issued a statement to WKU Public Radio saying the dispute was "trivial" and in no way politically motivated. The senator's office did not immediately reply to a request for comment on the possibility of federal charges.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) speaks at a press conference about the latest Republican Effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act on Capitol Hill in Washington, U.S. September 25, 2017.

Boucher, a medical doctor and neighbor of Paul's who had a long-running feud with the Senator over politics, caused potentially life-threatening injuries to Paul after ambushing the man while mowing his lawn last Friday. He showed no emotion and kept his head down during the brief proceeding. Rand Paul is not taking responsibility for his attack on the Kentucky lawmaker. Paul and Dr. Boucher, an anesthesiologist and "pain specialist", have been arguing about each other's lawn maintenance for years.

Boucher and his lawyer, Matthew Baker, agreed to a pre-trial conference scheduled for November 30 to review the charges.

The neighbor of U.S. Sen.

The office of Warren County prosecutor Amy Milliken is working with Kentucky State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, she shared, though did not provide further details.

Baker told Bowling Green television station WBKO that the incident was related to a property dispute and called the idea that Paul was "blindsided" an unfair characterization.

Boucher's charges could go up if it turns out Paul's injuries, which have forced him to miss Senate work, turn out to be worse, Milliken said.

Apple 'moved offshore funds to Jersey' after Ireland tax crackdown
The Government also shut off the so-called "double Irish", which allowed companies to funnel profits into tax havens. With this maneuver, the group disclosed lower profits than it had in reality and paid fewer taxes.

Paul writes on Twitter Wednesday: "I appreciate all of the support from everyone".

The ongoing mystery is what led to the assault.

A Paul friend says the senator was tackled from behind and slammed to the ground Friday.

"Prosecutors will review our case in its entirety and they'll make a determination if it will be bumped up to felony", Jeremy Hodges, master trooper and public affairs officer for Kentucky State Police Post 3 at Bowling Green, told Fox News on Monday.
