A North Carolina air traffic controller has been accused of possessing a weapon of mass destruction.

Dandan was charged with possession, acquiring and transporting a weapon of mass destruction, while Fells was charged with three counts of manufacturing a weapon of mass destruction and one count of possession of such a weapon.

Dandan got the bomb from his room mate, a 39-year-old identified as Derrick Fells, media reported.

Officers with the CMPD's bomb squad later confirmed that the explosive device in question was a homemade pipe bomb. WNCN reports that the FAA has suspended Dandan's access to the airport while the FAA and the FBI are investigating the case.

Rohrabacher (R-Costa Mesa) has long advocated for a friendlier relationship between the United States and Russian Federation . The congressman's staff did not immediately return a request for comment Friday, a federal holiday.

Fells then allegedly gave the small explosive device to Dandan.

A representative with the Federal Aviation Administration noted that Dandan's airport access credentials were revoked following his arrest.

Paul George Dandan, 30, was arrested Friday, a week after police received a 911 call about a person with a bomb and went to his house in Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

A police statement indicates Dandan did not have access to restricted areas of the airport in his capacity as an air traffic controller and only worked inside an offsite tower.

Until now negotiations with the companies had focused on conduct remedies, according to one of the people. The two sides are far apart in getting a deal done, increasing the risk that talks could hit an impasse.

Though the FBI is aiding local law enforcement in the investigation, early reports indicate federal charges against Dandan and Fells are not expected. He admitted to detectives that he made the bomb in order to use it against a neighbor.

In March 2015, Dandan was arrested and charged with assault on a female.

The FAA confirmed to NBC Charlotte that Dandan's access to the airport was terminated following his arrest Friday afternoon. Fells changed his mind about using the weapon, and gave it to Dandan, according to police, who began investigating the case November 3.
