Russia's Ministry of Defence has posted what it called "irrefutable proof" of the USA aiding so-called Islamic State - but one of the images was actually taken from a video game.

The social media post for both its Russian language channel and the English-language version were also deleted following the revelation that the scene was from a video game.

Another image was identified by the Russian military research site Conflict Intelligence Team and the investigative website Bellingcat as a shot from footage of Iraq taken in 2016.

The United States is providing de-facto cover for Islamic State units in Syria and only pretending to fight terrorism in the Middle East, the Russian Defence Ministry said on Tuesday.

"The US refused to bomb an ISIS convoy fleeing from Abu Kamal under the pretext of the Convention on prisoners of war".

In the meantime, the Russian Defense Ministry published new posts [1, 2] with different imagery and blamed the error on an employee.

The tweet above was one of many precautions that was taken by those who saw the tweet in case it would be removed from the Russian Twitter account.

"The Russian Defense Ministry is investigating its civil service employee who erroneously attached wrong photo illustrations to its statement on interaction between the US-led worldwide coalition and Islamic State militants near Abu Kamal, Syria", the ministry said.

Our Defence Affairs Are Not Negotiable: Iran FM to Macron
Eight reports by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have confirmed Iran's full compliance with the agreement. Qassemi. "There are extremely strong concerns about Iran ".

"The defense ministry is looking into a civilian employee of one of the departments who attached photos to the defense ministry's statement by mistake", a new statement was quoted by Russian agencies as saying. "As proof, the MoD's social media account posted what they claimed were Russian drone photos of the convoy heading towards the Syrian-Iraqi border", the group said.

The ministry said US-led coalition planes instead tried to impede Russian Aerospace Forces operations in the area.

Responding to Russia's allegations in remarks carried by Reuters, a spokesman for the US-led coalition Col Ryan Dillon said the Russian allegations were "about as accurate as their air campaign".
