Bungie said the story is created to dive deep into Destiny lore, focusing on Osiris and, more specifically, the Vex and their true intentions for the universe. Presumably, we'll hear more about him today.
It was easy to be pessimistic about it. Bungie only released two raids during the first year of Destiny 1, and the second is generally considered to be the weakest of them all. You can check out the live stream below which is being broadcasted on Bungie's official Twitch page. Mercury itself will get a new destination in the Destiny 2 Director, the Fields of Glass.
While it's a bit disappointing to not see the Raid explore more about Osiris, the Vex, the Infinite Forest, and that whole story line, it's interesting to see Bungie expand the role of Leviathan in the game.
