Or is it just kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy whereby we tend to drink red wine in relaxing settings and gin when we're preparing to get bladdered?

But 59 per cent of spirit drinkers reported feelings of confidence compared to 45 per cent of beer drinkers and just over a quarter of red or white wine drinkers. And the results were based on answers of 30,000 participants who consumed beer, red and white wine.

The more people drink, the more the negatives catch up.

Spirits are also the most likely to make you feel sad. Roughly two of five beer drinkers said the suds make them feel confident, while one-quarter of red wine drinkers said they feel sexier after a glass. Only 20 per cent associated hard spirits with the feeling of being relaxed.

Around 7 million drivers were also affected , with hackers accessing around 600,000 United States driver's license numbers. It recently fired Joe Sullivan, its chief security officer, and deputy Greg Clark for their handling of the incident.

Drinking red wine may elicit conflicting responses of feeling both sexy and exhausted, a new study suggests.

Co-author Professor Mark Bellis, who is also Public Health Wales' director of policy, research and worldwide development, said: "For centuries, the history of rum, gin, vodka and other spirits has been laced with violence". Using responses from 18- to 34-year-olds, the team found that reported emotions varied with the type of alcohol consumed, as well as by gender, and level of alcohol dependency. This can result in a quicker stimulating effect as blood alcohol levels increase. If people are to make informed decisions about their drinking, they need to know the full picture of how alcohol affects moods and emotions. The hope is that the study findings might help to reduce "alcohol-related harms" by better understanding how different drinks are associated with a variety of different social and emotional outcomes. Men more often associated feelings of aggression with alcohol, according to the survey results.

"Alcohol is alcohol no matter the form, and acts on the brain in the same way". It may be due to the nature of the drink, such as different ingredients, alcohol content, and the amounts consumed. Negative feelings such as aggression (30%), restlessness (28%) and tearfulness (22%) give significant cause for concern.

Many drinkers claim to feel teary after a G&T, or unusually aggressive after a dram of whisky - but researchers now say they have found new evidence to suggest different types of alcohol elicit different emotional responses.

Chelsea advance to UEFA Champions League last 16
A win guarantees Chelsea's progression to the knockout stage, while a draw will do as long as Atletico Madrid fail to beat Roma. Hazard and Cesc Fabregas converted from the spot, while Willian marked his 200th Blues appearance with two sublime goals.

White wine doesn't have almost as pronounced an effect on your emotions as... well, pretty much anything. The exception was aggression, which was more commonly reported by men (36.97% of men compared to 31.27% of women).

Moreover, spirits have a higher alcohol content. "People get that rush", he said, "and of course it damps down the consideration of the repercussions of some of the actions they might take".

It also suggested that the likelihood of a person feeling aggressive after drinking was increased among people who had a higher dependancy on alcohol. But it's not all doom and gloom in the spirit world; vodka, gin and rum turned out to be the most energy and confidence boosting cocktails of the bunch, with more than half of all respondents admitting to feelings of Dutch courage.
