By 2025, every student in the city will receive computer science education in elementary, middle and high school. Please join Microsoft in building a global appreciation for Computer Science by visiting and doing your very own Hour of Code today.

Over the past five years, the number of students in the Asia Pacific region who are learning to code has increased dramatically, with China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Malaysia, introducing education reforms which have placed computer science on the curriculum alongside traditional subjects, such as numeracy and literacy. Computer science can help nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity.

In addition to games and activities, this week is also dedicated to furthering a variety of important edtech initiatives, such as promoting women's presence in the computer science workforce and increasing students' opportunities to study coding.

If you learn how to code, there's no limit what you can achieve. Computer science is foundational for every industry today, yet most schools don't teach it.

We have a lot planned throughout the world for Computer Science Education Week. Under each block is a line of Java code and the students can "look under the hood" to see the actual code which is being used. The initiative was initially launched in the United States to "demystify the art of coding" and expand student participation in computer science. Through Code Brooklyn, the borough's schools have been expanding computer science education by training teachers, building curriculum and infrastructure and getting support from parents. Since 2013, it is estimated that over 100 millions students, from 180 different countries, have enrolled on Hour of Code tutorials. Students use these blocks to program a Minecraft character to complete various tasks.
