  • Ryanair issued with ultimatum as fresh threat of strike emerges

The union said a recognition agreement had to be agreed by midday on Thursday and warned its mandate for strike action could still be implemented "in the absence of a timely agreement".

Irish low-priced carrier Ryanair will move on to meetings with cabin crew unions "in due course", it said on Tuesday, following its surprise shift to talk with pilot unions and after criticism from a German cabin crew union.

Speaking this evening, Bernard Harbour said: "While Ryanair management said they recognised Impact and IALPA (the pilots union) for collective bargaining, they said they were unable to give the union a piece of paper to confirm this recognition".

Speaking after the talks, Ryanair's Chief People Officer Eddie Wilson said he is pleased with how they went.

French media are reporting 20 passengers had also been injured, 11 of them critically, following the incident near Perpignan. France's transport minister has described the collision as a "terrible accident" and is travelling to the scene.

"This is disappointing given all that's been said in the media over the last five days".

It forced the budget airline to recognise a pilots' union and brought about talks with IMPACT union scheduled for later today. The airline has already seen significant disruption to its services this year, after issues with pilot scheduling and cabin crew revolts saw thousands of flights cancelled.

It also confirmed it will recognise cabin crew unions.

According to a recording of a meeting obtained by the Irish Independent newspaper, Ryanair executives told pilots at Stansted last week that the airline had "grown too fast" and lost their trust, but was working hard to restore it.

The Ducks bounced back from a three-game losing streak in the middle of conference play to win three of four to end the year. The Ducks will be forced to play without its head coach, as Willie Taggart is off to Florida State after just two years.

The move marked a dramatic shift after decades of refusing to negotiate with unions and came after groups of pilots around Europe called strikes.

The union wants the company to clarify the detail of its decision on Friday to recognise unions for the first time in the company's history.

A one-day strike had been planned for tomorrow and would have mostly involved captains operating out of Irish bases but doubtless have a severe knock-on effect. "We're decisive in it", he said.
