The army said in a statement that Pakistani soldiers violated the 2003 cease-fire accord by targeting Indian forward posts on Saturday in Rajouri sector.

An army spokesperson identified the slain soldiers as Major Moharkar Prafulla Ambadas, Lance Naik Gurmail Singh, sepoys Pargat Singh and Gurmeet Singh, who belonged to 120 Infantry Brigade.

At least four Indian soldiers on border patrol have been killed by Pakistani fire on the de facto border of the disputed region Kashmir.

A spokesperson for the Pakistani army did not immediately react to this accusation.

"The incident started when Pakistani troops targeted the Army patrol at Brat Galla in Keri sector at around 12:15pm in which the three soldiers were injured fatally", he said. Lance Naik Gurmail Singh, 34, was a resident of Amritsar district of neighbouring Punjab and is survived by his wife Kuljit Kaur and a daughter.
