  • Miss America CEO suspended for misogynistic emails

The Miss America pageant's CEO resigned on Saturday after dozens of former beauty queens demanded he step down over leaked internal emails that contained misogynistic, fat- and slut-shaming language. But he said it was wrong.

"The leaders of this organization cannot degrade the values that Miss America represents", Shields wrote. "Although this awful situation was not caused or driven by me, in light of recent events and new developments, I am no longer willing to continue in my capacity as president and earlier today offered my resignation to the MAO Board of Directors".

"I was under stress from a full year of attacks by two Miss Americas, and while I don't ever want to offer an excuse, I do want to offer context", he added.

The outgoing president of the Miss America Organization is apologizing to a former Miss America whose weight he ridiculed in an email exchange with other pageant officials.

USF scores late TD, wins wild Birmingham Bowl over Texas Tech
But it got worse on Saturday when a combination of Texas Tech coach coaches tried to make up for Robinson's departure. Instead, the Bulls took advantage of a 15-yard punt from Dominic Pananzzolo to set themselves up with a short field.

"This afternoon, the board of directors of the Miss America Organization accepted the resignation of Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Sam Haskell, effective immediately", Dan Meyers, interim chairman of the board, said in a statement.

Elizabeth Gracen, an Arkansan who won the competition in 1982, also signed her name to petition.

The writer responded by questioning whether he and Haskell were part of a tiny group of people who had not had sex with Hagan.

HuffPost first published the emails on Thursday, showing Haskell commenting crudely on the appearances of women who had competed in the pageant to other members of the organization.

But that's nearly a minute longer than the shortest solar day, which occurs in mid-September around the time of the equinox. Each hemisphere will experience winter when they are tilted away from the sun and summer when it is tilted towards the sun.

The emails already cost the pageant its television production partner and raised questions about the future of the nationally televised broadcast from Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall the week after Labor Day each year.

Also on Saturday, one of the main recipients of fundraising from the Miss America Organization said it was reviewing its association with Miss America.

Haskell said in a statement on Friday: "The story is so unkind and untrue, and hurts me, my family, and the stewardship of this nonprofit".

About 1,600 state and local titleholders, contestants and pageant volunteers joined the former Miss America winners in calling for change at the Miss America Organization.
