THESE are the squalid conditions British tourist Laura Plummer could face after she was jailed for three years for smuggling painkillers into Egypt. Plummer's family said she did not realize Tramadol was illegal in Egypt when she chose to bring the pills to help with her husband's chronic back pain, which she obtained from a friend, the BBC reports.

Ms Plummer's lawyer Mohamed Othman said the allegations against his client were "illogical" as her plane ticket was "double the price" of the pills.

She wept as she appeared before a judge in handcuffs on Christmas morning and was suddenly handed a three-year sentence for the charge of drug smuggling, the report said.

Laura's family say she will now be taken to Qena prison - about an hour's drive north of Luxor - where inmates sleep in cells with no bed and only blankets. "She doesn't deserve that".

They said she did not try to hide the medication and initially thought it was a joke when she was pulled up by officials.

"I just can't believe it, she couldn't do three months, now it's three years", Roberta Sinclair, Ms Plummer's mother, told the Telegraph.

Ms Plummer's local MP, Karl Turner, admitted the result could have been much worse, but still described it as "devastating". "Laura did not know that what she was carrying was a narcotic".

The family has previously said Plummer had no idea that what she was doing was illegal and she was just "daft".

Florida State could have applied for a waiver through the NCAA's bowl eligibility process had the issue been discovered sooner. As this is less than 90%, Florida State can not count the Delaware State game through Exception 18.7.2.1.1.

It is not clear when an appeal against her sentence might be heard.

She was arrested at Hurghada Airport on October 9, and signed a 38-page document written in Arabic as she thought it would grant her freedom.

Mrs Sinclair said her daughter was being held in awful conditions in a communal cell with no beds, sharing with up to 25 other women. One of Plummer's sisters, Jayne Sinclair, told the BBC that not even her husband knew she was bringing in the pills to warn her of their status in the country.
