  • Kabul: Four killed in suicide attack at Afghan Voice

Witnesses reported that at least two other explosions followed in the area, the Qalay Nazer neighborhood in western Kabul, including one blast at the entrance of the Afghan Voice Agency.

The attacks shook Kabul a day after the US Marine Forces reported the death of a suspected Taliban leader, Qari Fida Mohammad, which, however, was claimed to have taken place much earlier.

"The target of the attack was the Tabayan cultural centre".

A deputy spokesman for the Interior Ministry, Nasrat Rahimi, said that at least 40 people had been killed and another 30 wounded, but that was an initial accounting.

1TV News, quoting an interior ministry spokesman, said a suicide bomber was likely to have been behind the attack.

He said one reporter at the agency had been killed and one injured.

Afghan president Ashraf Ghani has called the attack on a Shiite Muslim cultural center in Kabul a "crime against humanity".

A report issued by the AJSC in July reported different figures from that of Reporters Without Borders and said in the first six months of 2017, 10 journalists were killed and 73 cases of violence had been reported including "killing, beating, inflicting injury and humiliation, intimidation, and detention".
