Texans GM Rick Smith to take leave of absence

01 January, 2018, 03:10 | Author: Anita Tucker

The Houston Texans will likely retain Bill O'Brien as head coach in 2018.

"We have a bond here with the coaching staff and the players and maybe it's because of all the things that we kind of had to deal with this year", O'Brien said earlier this week.

Smith, who has served as Houston's general manager since 2006, announced through the team that he is taking "an extended leave of absence" to care for his wife, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Meghan Markle's dad "extremely hurt" by Prince Harry's latest comments
Markle's mother, Doria Ragland , and father, Tom Markle, divorced in 1987 when she was 5. "She's had a really good family". Taking to Twitter , she wrote: " Actually she [Meghan] has a large family who were always there with her and for her .

Smith made the announcement Sunday after spending time away from the team. Smith also had his contract extended past year through the 2020 season. This was an extremely hard decision for me to make as I love this organization and every member of this team both on and off the field.

What the McNairs don't want is another general manager-coach relationship like the one Smith and O'Brien develoved into in recent years.

Smith's priorities are understandably and appropriately elsewhere with his wife undergoing treatment, so handing personnel control to someone else may be a sound decision for all involved with the Texans.

Trump lashes out at Vanity Fair for backtracking on Hillary Clinton video
This wasn't a Hillary hit piece either, for what it's worth! "We made silly new years resolutions for a bunch of politicians". Carter seemed to take the ridicule in stride.

At 4-11 entering Sunday's game against the Colts, the Texans are set to finish with their worst record of O'Brien's four-year coaching tenure.

"I don't have any comment on that", O'Brien said on Sunday. He and O'Brien are friends who worked together for five years with the Patriots.

Democrat Jones officially declared victor over Roy Moore
Previously, Merrill has said it is "highly unlikely" that Jones would not be certified as the victor of the election. Moore's campaign was deeply wounded by accusations of sexual misconduct involving teenage girls decades ago.
