  • LeBron James second behind Giannis in first All-Star returns

The NBA announced Thursday that Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James are sitting atop the first batch of voting returns for the 2018 All-Star Game. Kevin Durant received the most votes in the Western Conference, and among front court players, with 767,402 votes, while Stephen Curry leads the guards in the west with 735,115.

Joining Antetokounmpo and James at the top of the Eastern Conference frontcourt are Philadelphia's Joel Embiid (433,161) and New York Knicks' Kristaps Porzingis (359,459).

Simmons is now sitting in the fourth spot behind Kyrie Irving, DeMar DeRozan, and Victor Oladipo in the East guards category.

Finishing first in either conference among All-Star voting matters this season because the league has done away with the traditional East-West game in favor of two teams picked out of a pool of All-Stars by the top vote getter in each conference. The captains will be the All-Star starters from each conference who receive the most fan votes in respective conferences.

Failed missile test hits North Korean town
But more recent missile tests have been more successful and have travelled long distances, with some flying over parts of Japan. The Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile was launched eastward from Pyongsong in North Korea's South Pyongan Province.

The starters will be revealed January 18.

As a reminder, the National Basketball Association has ditched the classic East-West format for this year's tilt at Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 18.

Under a new format meant to help balance the popular vote against fielding players who deserve to start, fans are set to make up half of the vote, and players and about 75 media members will account for the other half. That total put him ahead of James by 7,336 votes.

The captains will be the top vote-getter from each conference, which based upon Thursday's update would be Antetokounmpo and Durant.

23 hurt, including firefighter, in New York City blaze
Adults and children fled from the three stories of apartments above, including a man who ran outside with no shirt and no shoes. The 23 civilians - including nine children - and a firefighter were rushed to hospitals after the 7-alarm blaze, Nigro said.

Durant and Curry aren't the only Golden State players doing well in the fan voting.

See below for the first fan returns of NBA All-Star Voting 2018 presented by Verizon.

There will be three frontcourt players and two guards chosen for each starting lineup, meaning Embiid now has a decent chance of starting in the game. Each post may include only one player's name.

Thick fog greets Delhi on New Year; flights, trains delayed
Save for a couple of global flights, all other flights that were heading North were delayed, they said. This is also an improvement, as RVR was in the range of 50-100 metres in the last two days.
