At least 15 people were killed and nearly 20 others were left injured as an explosion rocked Banaee area in Kabul on Thursday evening, a report claimed.

The suicide bomber detonated his explosives in Banaee area in Kabul's PD9 where protestors and police force members had gathered, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.

The Islamic State (IS) militant group claimed responsibility through its Amaq news agency, although it provided no evidence to back up the claim.

The deadly assault comes a week after more than 40 people were killed and dozens more wounded in a suicide blast claimed by the Islamic State group that targeted Shia in Kabul.
