'Coach' actor Jerry Van Dyke dead at 86

Van Dyke's career included the distinction of being Judy Garland's co-star on The Judy Garland Show, the late '60s series Accidental Family and the lead human role in the infamous sitcom My Mother the vehicle.

Danville native Jerry Van Dyke died Friday at his ranch in Hot Spring County, Arkansas, according to the Associated Press.

Van Dyke appeared on The Dick Van Dyke show, one of his earliest appearances as Stacey Petrie in 1962. He also played in Las Vegas, at Playboy Clubs, and on cruise ships in a stage show in the 60s.

He reunited on screen with his celebrity sibling on The Middle, where Dick guest starred as the estranged brother of Van Dyke's character, Tag. "Coach" co-star Craig T. Nelson released a statement to Eyewitness News, saying he is incredibly sad to hear of his passing.
