  • Fodder scam case Got calls from Lalu Yadav's men but will follow law says CBI court judge

RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav sentenced to 3.5 years in jail and Rs 5 lakh fine by Ranchi CBI court in a fodder scam case.

A special CBI court in Ranchi pronounced the quantum of punishment for Lalu a few minutes ago. After spending two months in jail, Supreme Court granted bail to Prasad in the first fodder scam case.

Apart from Lalu Yadav, other convicts Phool Chand, Mahesh Prasad, Bake Julius, Sunil Kumar, Sushil Kumar, Sudhir Kumar and Raja Ram were also sentenced to 3.5 years in jail. Earlier, RJD leader Rabri Devi called an emergency meeting of the party before Lalu Prasad Yadav's sentencing in fodder scam case. The conviction means he can not contest an election and he faces at least one more case.

Lalu was found guilty in another fodder scam case in 2013 after which he had to resign from his Lok Sabha seat. The court also slapped a ₹10 lakh fine on Mr. Prasad.

The court had on December 23 convicted Lalu Prasad and 15 others in the case relating to the multi-million-rupee scam.

The Special CBI court had postponed the sentencing twice this week. Post verdict, Prasad was taken into custody and taken to the Birsa Munda Prison in Ranchi.

On the other hand, BJP and its ally JD (U) said that no one is above the law, after the RJD said its leader has fallen prey to a "conspiracy" by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the saffron party. "He was chosen (by the people of Bihar in an election) and he's in jail", said the former Deputy Chief Minister in the Grand Alliance government.
