News Feed Overhaul Doesn't Change Bullish Facebook Inc (FB) Story, Says Analyst

  • Mark Zuckerberg fights to save facebook

12, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook is changing its news feed algorithm to reduce the amount of content you see from businesses, brands and media. "I'm changing the goal I give our product teams from focusing on helping you find relevant content to helping you have more meaningful social interactions", Zuckerberg continued.

The American Internet entrepreneur said they have recently obtained feedback from the community that public content is crowding out personal moments. In this way Facebook hopes to improve the quality of time you spend browsing Facebook, specifically by showing you things that are most valuable/relevant to you and your particular life - not necessarily things that someone else or some company has paid for you to see. But the changes raised questions about whether or not people would see more content that bolsters their ideologies because they frequently interact with posts that reflect the same views as their friends and family. Why not create a setting to let us see more or fewer animals?

"What are we really here to do?" he told The Times.

If he is honest about reducing the fake and low-calorie news stories clogging up users' Facebook feed, Zuckerberg could turn to the press for help.

WhatsApp, Signal group chats not as secure as users might believe
Although participants will be notified about the new addition, with full control of the thread the attacker can choose to block messages about it.

Mic, Mashable, Bored Panda, and so many other publishers have built most of their business around the content favored by Facebook's ever-changing algorithm. It's Facebook's attempt to erase practically all news from the feed to give users a sense of community, not outrage and clickbait.

We understand where Facebook is coming from. So, when you see a sponsored post, you'll at least notice it more if not engage with it more.

On top of that, lower organic reach may prompt some businesses to buy more advertising on Facebook.

CFO Dave Wehner has already made it explicitly clear there's no more room in news feed for Facebook to show more ads.

Now, after encouraging media organizations and local businesses to spend billions building up their social media presences on Facebook - including paying billions to Facebook itself to increase page "likes" and "follows" - Facebook is changing the game midstream. Last year, NY magazine reported on a study that found that "people who see an article from a trusted sharer, but one written by an unknown media source, have much more trust in the information than people who see the same article from a reputable media source shared by a person they do not trust". And news can help start conversations on important issues. But too often today, watching video, reading news or getting a page update is just a passive experience.

Intel to ship 802.11ax chipsets in 2018
And it's good to know that 802.11ax is coming - but it still has a ways to go before we're using it to connect to the web. The first 802.11ax chips should arrive this year, but mass adoption will occur in 2019, he added.

The move is likely to result in people spending less time on the leading social network.

Zuckerberg says that according to research, people use social media to stay in touch with people they care about, and that can have a positive impact on their overall well-being.

"We believe these changes will be beneficial to Facebook in the medium and long term". "Good on Facebook - they are doing the right thing, long-term".

Rather than bringing people together, users have been led to passively.
