Look out for rare 'super blood blue moon' visible on Jan. 31

While typical lunar eclipses aren't terribly rare - the next full one viewable from North America will occur in January 2019 - this one combines a total eclipse with a supermoon and a blue moon, making it a sort of moon event triple threat. A supermoon is when the moon turns full when it is closest to earth during its orbit - about 223,000 miles - and appears about 14 percent brighter than a typical full moon. Since 1 January was also a full moon, that will make the supermoon on 31 January 2018 both a blue moon and a supermoon.

While the moon is in the earth's shadow it will take on a reddish tint, known as a "blood moon", Gordon Johnston, programme executive and lunar blogger at NASA Headquarters in Washington, NASA said in a statement. In fact, it should look considerably more orange than usual thanks to a total lunar eclipse. "The eclipse begins at 5.51am ET, as the moon is about to set in the western sky, and the sky is getting lighter in the east".

The total eclipse will begin at 6:48 a.m.

A lunar eclipse happens several times of year, so it's not that uncommon.

Ambulance bomb blast kills 40, wounds 140 in Kabul
Isis are predominantly backed by people of the Sunni branch of Islam who consider Shiite's to be non-believers. He added that four suspects have been arrested and are being questioned.

The maximal eclipse visible in Ottawa will occur at 7:10 a.m., according to the Canadian Space Agency. When the moon is in a position where observers on Earth do not perceive a shadow, the side of the moon facing Earth is completely visible and thus, full. India had the last blue moon eclipse occurring on December 30, 1982. Dr. Ciocca mentions lunar eclipses are special due to them being fairly uncommon.

Wednesday night will also be a supermoon, when the full moon will be closest to the earth on its orbital journey - a mere 360,198km away. The earlier you're out, the better the view.

"The rising moon, at 6.21pm will be slightly more reddish in colour than it usually is".

Although viewers in the United Kingdom and Africa will not be treated to the eclipse this time around, they can always livestream the event online via Nasa or the Virtual Telescope Project's website.

After 152 years, 'Super Blue Blood Moon' will be seen on Wednesday
The eclipse starts at 5:51 a.m. "In this case we have the moon visible in our sky and the sun is behind us", Berrier said. The reddish hue of the moon occurs due to the bending of light in the atmosphere once the moon enters the shadow of Earth.

Some determined sky watchers in ME may be able to catch the start of the lunar eclipse before sunrise Wednesday morning.

You are going to need a heavy jacket, though.

A#Total Lunar Eclipse is predicted to occur in the early hours of January 31.
