Twitter finally reports a profit

Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) yearly performance is 47.37% and net profit margin is -15.10%.

Shares of Twitter, Inc. are presently 126.70% off the 52 week low. Citigroup upped their price target on shares of Twitter to $22.00 and gave the stock a "hold" rating in a research note on Wednesday.

Twitter says it has turned a profit for the first time last quarter, sending its shares surging. Eleven research analysts have rated the stock with a sell rating, twenty have assigned a hold rating and nine have given a buy rating to the company's stock.

The stock's current distance from 20-Day Simple Moving Average (SMA20) is 9.83% where SMA50 and SMA200 are 14.43% and 38.84% respectively.

There's no indication that Twitter benefited from changes to Facebook's algorithm, said Brian Wieser, an analyst from Pivotal Research who downgraded Twitter to a "sell" rating Thursday despite the strong quarter. The company had a trading volume of 114,600,758 shares, compared to its average volume of 30,379,684. The company has a current ratio of 10.40, a quick ratio of 10.40 and a debt-to-equity ratio of 0.35.

Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) last issued its quarterly earnings results on Thursday, February 8th.

The social networking company reported $0.19 earnings per share (EPS) for the quarter, topping the Zacks' consensus estimate of $0.14 by $0.05. A new agency resource center for mid-sized digital agencies drove an increase in revenue from smaller ad agencies, the company reported.

Dorsey and chief financial officer Ned Segal said the firm's 2% year-on-year quarterly revenue boost, which brought Q4 turnover up to $732m, was also influenced in-part by better targeting which had improved click-through rates (CTR).

Overall revenue rose 2% year-over-year to US$731.6 million, the first increase since the fourth quarter of 2016, beating Wall Street's target of US$686.1 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

In other news, General Counsel Vijaya Gadde sold 135,000 shares of the firm's stock in a transaction dated Friday, November 10th. The shares were sold at an average price of $24.27, for a total transaction of $445,281.69. The shares were sold at an average price of $17.82, for a total transaction of $8,063,550.00. Still, getting to profitability at least shows that Twitter can operate sustainably and survive as an independent company if it maintains it cost discipline, even if the business isn't growing and the stock may not be a long-term outperformer.

During the fourth quarter of 2017, the social giant took in $91 million. ANTIPODES PARTNERS Ltd bought a new position in shares of Twitter during the second quarter worth $38,366,000. Toronto Dominion Bank now owns 7,592 shares of the social networking company's stock valued at $136,000 after acquiring an additional 1,333 shares during the period. Key Square Capital Management LLC grew its position in Twitter by 178.3% in the fourth quarter. Stock value has moved between $80.06 - 107.9 in last one year.
