State AG asks court to intervene in sale of Weinstein company

Harvey Weinstein is now the target of a lawsuit brought by the State Attorney General of ny.

The state of NY filed a lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein, his brother and their eponymous production company Sunday for "egregious violations" of civil rights, human rights and business laws.

Weinstein, a former Hollywood titan, was accused of sexual assault and harassment by dozens of women.

Eric Schneiderman said while the investigation into Mr Weinstein was ongoing, court intervention was sought in light of the reported imminent sale of The Weinstein Company.

"Any sale of the company must ensure victims are adequately compensated, employees are protected, and that enablers of sexual misconduct will not be unjustly enriched", said New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman in a tweet Sunday.

The state's move comes days before the Weinstein Co. was set to finalize a sale of the beleaguered company to an investor group led by Maria Contreras-Sweet, the former Small Business Administration head under the Obama administration.

The suit charges that the human resources department at the Weinstein Company was completely corrupt. Employee accounts of sexual harassment, intimidation and other misconduct are part of the suit.

The NYPD is also investigating rape allegations against Harvey Weinstein.

Schneiderman's probe found that employees were subjected to various verbal threats from Weinstein such as "I will kill you, I will kill your family, and "you don't know what I can do".
