  • HTC mobile chief resigns before the unveiling of company's last flagship HTC U12

HTC seems to be in a tough spot, as its smartphone chief just announced his resignation effective immediately. Chang previously worked at Motorola and Goldman Sachs before joining HTC as CFO in 2012.

Chang Chia-lin (張嘉臨) resigned on Wednesday as president of Taiwan-based HTC Corp's Smartphone and Connected Devices Business, at a time when the Taiwanese smartphone brand is struggling against stiff global competition.

HTC will likely be on the lookout for someone to replace Chang's position, but that could be an uphill battle for the company.

Peoples lives are being shattered by mere allegation
More importantly, though, the fact that this leaked out so quickly suggests Kelly has lost the confidence of his staff. But there was no sign that a move was imminent, according to the people with knowledge of the conversations.

After recently selling a large portion of its smartphone business to Google, HTC's President of Smartphone and Connected Devices has announced that he will be stepping down to pursue his own "personal career plan".

So far, HTC has not named a successor to Chang.

There is some moving and shaking going on at HTC, which is seemingly the result of Google acquiring key members from the company's smartphone team. Hopefully, the company will find someone who can help HTC revisit its glory days when it was one of the top smartphone manufacturers in the world.

HTC said it is a personal career move, while media reports indicate Chang intends to launch an AI startup in the future.

Last year's HTC U11 was a great device that we're excited to see a follow-up on, but details on when the HTC U12 will arrive are essentially unknown at this point. It is expected that HTC will launch HTC U12 sometime in 2018.
