Police warn of 'suspicious' packages as explosions rock Austin, Texas

  • Members of APD's bomb squad responded to the scene of Monday's earlier package explosioin

"I want to assure all Texans, and especially those in Austin, that local, state and federal law enforcement officials are working diligently to find those responsible for these heinous crimes", Abbott said. When the resident, a 17-year-old African-American male, opened the package in the kitchen, it exploded - killing him and injuring a woman.

Authorities had said they believe the first two explosions are linked.

Then, shortly before noon, local time, police responded to a third explosion, this time on the southeast side of the city.

Manley noted the first package bomb incident occurred in Austin on March 2 and two other on Monday morning.

Authorities suspect that both of Monday's blasts are linked to a March 2 attack that killed a 39-year-old black man, and they urged the public to call police if they receive any unexpected packages. He also said police are looking at any link between the three victims. He says they aren't ruling anything out, but they are no longer "making the connection to a hate crime".

Monday's second explosion occurred around the Montopolis neighborhood, about 5 miles south of the day's first blast.

On the show, Khloe said,"I don't feel like I'm having a girl, I'm, like, in a state of shock". On Monday morning, Khloe gushed about her party on her subscription-only website .

That woman's injuries were not life-threatening, he said. She was taken to a hospital with potentially life-threatening wounds. Three of the victims were black and a woman wounded in the second blast on Monday was Hispanic, police said. A second woman from that address has been hospitalized with an unrelated medical issue.

It was the third such incident this month in Austin. Manley said hate crime cannot be ruled out because both homes that were recipients of the packages belonged to African-Americans.

Austin Police Department told ThinkProgress that there would be an on-site update later on Monday, as well as updates via the Austin Police Department's Twitter feed.

He says there's now no other evidence indicating a hate crime beyond the victims' race.

Police say the package that arrived at House's home was not delivered through the U.S. Postal Service or any other delivery service.

Mr Manley had earlier tweeted: "My heart goes out to the family of the individual who died and was injured from the explosion in Old Fort Hill".

"Enjoy yourself, have a good time", Manley said.

A 17-year-old boy was killed and a woman was injured Monday morning when a package in their home exploded.

The FBI has begun aiding in the investigation. "They have, to our knowledge, evacuated", a dispatcher was heard saying earlier Monday. Here's a screenshot of where the explosion took place, east of 35 in the Harris Ridge area, not far from Dell Parmer South Campus and Parmer North. Police say both bombings appear to be connected to a previous bombing on March 2nd.

The first case, which killed 39-year-old Anthony Stephan House, was initially ruled a suspicious death.

"That case was being investigated as a suspicious death", Manley said today according ABC News, regarding the March 2 incident.

There is now no description available of a possible suspect or suspect vehicle.
