Her conviction and sentencing arose out of an incident that happened in Johannesburg in February 2016, when Momberg made an emergency call to say she'd been robbed.

A woman found guilty of causing grievous hurt to her domestic helper has had her good behaviour bond replaced by an eight-year jail sentence, The Star reported on Thursday (Mar 29).

NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane was speaking after Momberg was sentenced to an effective two years in prison by the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Rugoonandan said the police officers that assisted Momberg were dressed in their uniforms, ready to serve and that Momberg's slurs stripped the officers of their dignity.

"It's a sad day for me".

"This case has become public interest, some may think the sentence is harsh ..."

She later said it was apparent that, based on letters provided to the court by various family members, there is still an inability to unite and find common ground even after Eric Krafft's death.

He asked the court to release Momberg on bail while she lodges her appeal.

The prosecutor said that the offence was contrary to section 287 of the penal code law, and prayed the court to try Aliyu summarily in line with section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Meanwhile‚ in June 2017‚ the Equality Court ordered that Momberg should pay a R100‚000 fine to the policeman she racially abused during the 2016 incident‚ that she undergoes sensitivity training and that she tenders an apology for her racist outburst.
