Dutch Lawyer Becomes First Person Sentenced In Mueller Probe

A London-based lawyer was ordered to serve 30 days in prison after a federal judge Tuesday handed down the first sentence in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of alleged Russian interference in the 2016 USA presidential election.

The memo, which had not previously been released publicly and remains redacted in parts, said that Mueller was empowered to investigate allegations that Manafort "committed a crime or crimes by colluding with Russian government officials" to interfere with the presidential election.

Weissmann noted Tuesday that van der Zwaan had lied to his law firm and to former White House counsel Greg Craig, the senior partner with whom he worked before he was sacked, about his interactions with Gates.

He was wrapped into the special counsel's investigation last fall after his firm, Skadden Arps, began to cooperate in an investigation of Manafort and Gates' alleged contact with Ukrainians and Russians during the 2016 election. "We're not talking about a traffic ticket".

There is a rematch clause for the fight, but Joshua's promoter, Eddie Hearn, said that would not be happening. It explains why Joshua tipped the scales at almost a stone lighter than he did for his previous fight.

Van der Zwaan, who speaks French and Russian and graduated from King's College London in 2006, is married to the daughter of Russian billionaire German Khan.

Dutch lawyer Alex van der Zwaan, 33, was sentenced to 30 days in prison for lying to investigators about contacts with ex-Trump aide Rick Gates.

"Your honour, what I did was wrong".

"I apologize to the court for my conduct", van der Zwaan said, according to reports.

Like van der Zwaan, Gates has also struck a plea deal with Mueller's office, as has disgraced National Security Advisor Michael Flynn. Person A is widely believed to be Konstantin Kilimnik, a Russian who worked on Manafort's and Gates' projects in Ukraine. Gates and Manafort worked closely with Yanukovych before he was removed from power in 2014. The report, authored by the law firm, was about the corruption trial of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. But this sentencing has nothing to do with Trump, the 2016 election, or Russian Federation.

Van der Zwann had faced between zero and six months in prison under sentencing guidelines.

His lawyers had asked that he be able to return to London by August, when his wife is due to deliver their first child. According to the indictment, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents personally questioned van der Zwaan in November 2017 about his communications with Gates and an unidentified Person A.

While Mueller is investigating Russian involvement in the 2016 election, this case arose during questioning about the defendant and Paul Manafort's work in the Ukraine more than 10 years ago.

Barr, a former liberal Hillary supporter who now vocally backs President Trump , said she was moved by his congratulatory call . The comments appeared to be related to an article she shared that discusses her show and its relation to Trump.

The Skadden report has been controversial in Ukraine in part because its findings seemed to contradict the worldwide community's conclusion that Tymoshenko had been unjustly jailed.
