  • Timothy Cunningham a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention employee

Authorities say an employee of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose body was found in an Atlanta river drowned and that there were no signs of foul play.

Fulton County chief medical examiner Dr. Jan Gorniak, tells reporters that a body found in Chattahoochee River Tuesday has been identified as missing CDC employee Timothy Cunningham during a news conference Thursday, April 5, 2018, in Atlanta. One popular rumor was that he was a whistle-blower who had warned others at the CDC that the vaccine used for the flu season had caused some of the high number of deaths from the illness.

Atlanta Police Maj. Michael O'Connor said that Cunningham had shared some "concerns at work" as well as "some personal issues" with family the day before he disappeared. The scientist was wearing his favorite running shoes, O'Connor added.

She said the way Cunningham's body had decomposed was consistent with him being missing since February 12.

Atlantic hurricane season will be slightly above-average, researchers say
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will issue their tropical cyclone forecast closer to hurricane season in June. At this point, "We do not anticipate a significant El Niño event this summer/fall", Colorado State researchers said in a release.

The 35-year-old, who was last seen on February 12, did not have any signs of injuries or foul play to his body and the preliminary results of an autopsy determined that he likely drowned, Fulton County Medical Examiner Jan Gorniak said.

Cunningham drove off that day and was never seen alive again, even as his auto, credit and debit cards, dog, keys, and cellphone were all recovered at his home, the police said.

After Cunningham's disappearance, police offered $10,000 as a reward for any clues regarding Cunningham's whereabouts. "His keys, his cell phone, credit cards, debit cards, wallet, all his identification, passport - everything you can think of, we've been able to locate".

Assuming no new information is brought to investigators, O'Connor said, the case will likely be closed "fairly soon".

Parents Reunite With Daughter Who Went Missing For Decades
After some time, they found that their daughter was missing and therefore they started looking for her, calling out her name etc. He pasted a sign appealing for information about his daughter's whereabouts on the rear window of his auto .

The manner of death has not been determined at this time, the medical examiner said. He left work quickly, saying he felt ill, they said. The medical examiner found no ante- or postmortem wounds on Cunningham's body after he was recovered from the river.

The Times reports Cunningham was promoted in July to commander in the uniformed United States Public Health Service.

During the morning of his disappearance, his mother said that she received a text from Cunningham.

The agency said he'd been deployed to work on numerous public-health emergencies, including Superstorm Sandy, the Ebola outbreak, and the Zika outbreak. "I can't tell you that he was jogging but those things together seem to indicate that that is a possibility".
