Woman sues doctor for inseminating mother with his own sperm

After the DNA test, Kelli Rowlette realised that the doctor had used his own sperm to impregnate her mother when she used artificial insemination in the 1980s.
Before receiving the shocking test results, Ms Rowlette had no clue that her parents had experienced trouble conceiving and had visited Dr Mortimer in the late 1970s. His former practice said the current doctors were not involved.
Kelli Rowlette, 36, began to think something was wrong with her Ancestry.com DNA test results when an "unknown name" was identified as her biological father.
Consequently, the couple made a decision to be artificially inseminated using sperm from both her husband (85 percent) and a donor (15 percent), who was requested to be a university student with fairly specific physical characteristics.
The lawsuit alleges Dr Mortimer used his own sperm for the procedure, secretly and against the couple's wishes to use a college student. Upon hearing the news, Mortimer reportedly "cried" knowing he did not disclose his genetic misdeeds the lawsuit stated.
After agreeing to pay Dr. Mortimer to perform the specified procedure, Dr. Mortimer collected genetic material from Mr. Fowler to perform the procedure over several sessions.
But Rowlette later found her birth certificate with his signature, it is claimed. When she received the report from Ancestry.com in July 2017 connecting her to Mortimer, she dismissed the results as a mistake.
If you don't believe me, wait until you hear about Gerald Mortimer, a retired Idaho Falls obstetrician and gynecologist who was just sued by the woman who allegedly discovered he's her biological father.
Ms. Rowlette and her family are suing Mortimer, his wife, and Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates of Idaho Falls on claims of medical negligence, fraud, battery, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and breach of contract, Gizmodo writes.
Ms Rowlette, Ms Ashby and Mr Fowler are seeking as-yet undetermined damages in excess of $US75,000 ($97,616)- the minimum amount to pursue such a case in federal court.

"Based on what we know from what's been reported, and the knowledge of how our system works, it's possible that both biological mother and father both took the test, and that the child did as well, however without further details we can not speculate on individual cases", Melissa Garrett, a spokeswoman for Ancestry.com, wrote in an email.
Ancestry.com tells Rowlette her biological father is a man named Gerald Mortimer.
As a result, "people may learn of unexpected connections" unless they choose to make their DNA match settings private.
She said she was "horrified and contacted her parents in a panic".
Over three months, Ashby underwent nine treatments. Mortimer apparently thought it was okay to use himself as a donor without telling the couple what he did.
