More than 200 million eggs recalled due to possible salmonella contamination

Almost 207 million eggs produced at a farm in Hyde County, N.C., are being voluntarily recalled because of concerns of contamination with the salmonella bacteria, the egg company announced.
The brand names include Coburn Farms, Country Daybreak, Food Lion, Glenview, Great Value, Nelms and Sunshine Farms, according to the FDA.
More than 200 million eggs distributed to restaurants and grocery stores in nine states have been recalled because of bacterial contamination.
The eggs were distributed to Virginia, North Carolina, Colorado, New Jersey, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and West Virginia through retail stores and restaurants. Numerous eggs were sold in Food Lions stores.
According to the FDA, 22 illnesses related to the recalled eggs have been reported so far.
That led to an inspection of the farm in Hyde County, North Carolina that produced the eggs.
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly, and those with weak immune systems.
The farm produces 2.3 million eggs a day.
The eggs come from Rose Acre Farms, located in Seymour.
