  • Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach found in contempt of court in voter eligibility case

Kobach is a Republican who had led President Trump's now-disbanded commission on voter fraud.

A federal judge has found Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach in contempt of court for disobeying a court order in a case testing that state's controversial proof-of-citizenship voting law. The injunction found that Kansas can not require voters to produce proof of US citizenship, such as a birth certificate or USA passport, when they register at licensing offices. She ordered to pay attorney fees for the prosecution while in the circumstance.

The American Civil Liberties Union sought the contempt ruling after Kobach refused to update the state's election guide or ensure that county officials sent postcards to residents who registered at driver licensing offices without providing citizenship documents.

Robinson reacted angrily to that assertion during the hearing, saying her ruling made it clear that voters covered by her injunction were not to be treated differently from other registered voters.

The effect of the accident, and her recovery, can be heard throughout the songs on Cry Pretty , including the title track. Carrie spoke of her healing process and said she's been "fortunate" throughout her recovery.

Kobach defended his DPOC law claiming it restricted non-citizens from voting in the state of Kansas, curbing voter fraud. The judge has yet to issue a ruling in the case.

Robinson said she did not find it credible that Kobach's office had orally instructed officials to send out the postcards. "They were not, and the fact that he sent a different notice to those voters does not wholly remove the contempt, nor does his attempt to resend postcards eighteen months after the election and five months after Plaintiffs notified him of the issue".

Kobach spokesman Moriah Day said the secretary of state's office would be appealing Robinson's decision.

Kobach failed to take responsibility for violating court orders and failed to personally ensure compliance, Robinson said.

Kobach assured Robinson he is going to get the voters registered and send postcards to any affected voters but the postcards were never sent, which are responsible for informing voters of their polling stations.

After Robinson reasoned he strove to deceive the court on records regarding a 2016 interview Kobach was fined $ 1000 final year. "Kobach's steady string of self-promotional partisan maneuvers and costly taxpayer funded lawsuits illustrate his overwhelming unfitness to be the next governor of Kansas".

"Defendant has a history of non-compliance with the preliminary injunction order", wrote the judge in her 25-page contempt order. He had registered in the state two years earlier but was humiliated when he went to vote in the 2014 elections and was told he needed to cast a provisional ballot because he wasn't on the voter rolls.
