Markets open in green; Sensex, Nifty trade higher on global cues

  • BSE’s 30-share Sensex closed 0.26% or 89.62 points higher at 34,395.06 points while National Stock Exchange’s 50-share Nifty climbed 0.19% or 20.35 points higher to close at 10,548.70 points

The BSE benchmark Sensex rose over 100 points in early trade today tracking strong Asian cues supported by a rally in oil prices and easing global trade concerns.

The Nifty50 was up 47.75 points or 0.46 per cent to close at 10,528.35 points, while the Sensex closed at 34,305.43 points - up 112.78 points or 0.33 per cent.

The barometer 30-scrip Sensex of the BSE, which opened at 34,381.80 points, settled at 34,395.06 points (3.30 p.m.)- up 89.63 points or 0.26 per cent from its previous session's close. USA crude gained 30 cents to $68.77.

At 3.30 p.m. the wider Nifty50 on the National Stock Exchange provisionally closed at 10,548.70 points, up 20.35 points or 0.19 per cent from the previous close.

On the global front, Asian stocks closed higher amid improved investor sentiment after USA stocks notched gains in the last session, with Hang Seng rising 1.4 percent and Shanghai Composite up 0.85 percent.

Tata Steel, Yes Bank, Bharti Airtel, TCS and Infosys were among the major gainers with their stocks rising as much as 3.08 per cent. Brokers said buying by investors coupled with a firm trend in other Asian markets influenced sentiment.

Rise in oil prices spurred energy and commodity related stocks, as markets consolidate ahead of important earnings calendar.

Tata Consultancy closed 1 per cent higher at Rs 3190.65 ahead of financial results for Q4FY18.
