"We have got ... err injured passengers", she said.

The FAA is ordering airlines to inspect hundreds of jet engines similar to one that exploded on a Southwest flight, killing one and injuring seven others.

In the cockpit of the Boeing 737 en route from NY to Dallas, Shults calmly informed air traffic control about the problems and arranged for emergency crews to meet her plane at its new destination.

"We have part of the aircraft missing ... Maintain any altitude above 3,000 feet".

"Can you have the medical meet us there on the runway as well". "And is your airplane physically on fire?"

"No, it's not on fire", she replied, "but part of it's missing".

"I think that for our industry, hiring and promoting diverse talent will make us stronger, better and we'll enjoy a much better business environment", he said.

Syria chemical attack: Inspectors allowed into Douma
The Pentagon said there was no USA military activity in that area "at this time". Syrian activists said more than 40 people were killed in the alleged attack.

After an inaudible exchange, the controller said, "we'll work it out there" at the airport in Philadelphia. Shrapnel hit the plane and passengers said they had to rescue a woman who was being blown out of a damaged window.

Here's what we know about the hero airwoman who bravely guided the flight to earth. After leaving active duty in early 1993, Shults served in the Navy Reserve until 2001. Southwest said Wednesday it isn't sharing details about the flight crew, though a spokeswoman said, "We couldn't be more proud of their actions".

There are some in Beeville who still remember the pilot.

"On behalf of the entire Crew, we appreciate the outpouring of support from the public and our coworkers as we all reflect on one family's profound loss", the two pilots said in the statement, adding that their "hearts are heavy". And given her heroism, as well as her groundbreaking career, the internet was quick to not only praise her but to also begin campaigning for a movie about her wonderful story.

But her path wasn't easy.

There's a story about the time she attended an aviation lecture in high school and was asked if she was lost - being the only female there. She added: "Her faith played a big role in this, and she's really thankful to God that she was the person that piloted the aircraft and she was able to save all those lives". "He allowed me to stay but assured me there were no professional women pilots".

"Southwest 1380, I understand your emergency", an air traffic controller says. He declined to say more, opting to extend his sympathies to the family of the deceased.

Enlarged spleen key to diving endurance of Indonesian 'sea nomads'
It's interesting that in comparison with neighbors, the Saluan people, the Bajau have spleens that are 50% larger. Studying marine dwellers such as the Bajau has great potential for researching acute hypoxia in a new way.

Shults grew up in a New Mexico ranch near Holloman Air Force Base, and was a 1983 graduate of MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas, where she earned degrees in biology and agribusiness.

But the challenges continued. "She did it for herself and all women fighting for a chance".

Shults, 56, was one of the first female fighter pilots in the USA military.

"Everybody is talking about Tammie Jo and how cool and calm she was in a crisis, and that's just Tammie Jo", said Rachel Russo, a friend from Shults' church in Boerne, Texas, about 30 miles northwest of San Antonio.

A year after taking the Navy aviation exam, she found a recruiter to process her application. Through her commitment to excellence in aviation, she has gained a national platform to give witness to her faith in Christ.

And why the surprise that a former Navy fighter pilot and seasoned airline captain, as Shults is, could handle an emergency situation calmly and competently?

"Jennifer Riordan has passed away as a result of previously reported events on Southwest Airlines flight #1380".
