  • Trump admits reimbursing lawyer for porn star payoff

Trump - who previously said he was not aware of the $130,000 Cohen paid to Daniels before the 2016 election in an effort to keep her quiet about an alleged affair between her and the President - denied on Thursday that any campaign money was used to reimburse Cohen and said he was paid via retainer. The sexual encounter allegedly took place in 2006, four months after Trump's wife Melania gave birth to their son Barron.

He also met up with Corey Lewandowski, Trump's combative one-time campaign manager who has begun attempting a comeback into Trumpworld and recently appeared with the president at a rally in MI, to discuss midterm and reelection politics after the Hannity interview.

Giuliani's insistence the money had nothing to do with the campaign is complicated by the fact that Daniels' silence was secured just days before the 2016 presidential election, and as Trump was dealing with the fallout from the "Access Hollywood" tape in which he bragged about sexually assaulting women.

"These agreements are very common among celebrities and people of wealth", Trump added.

The admission came at an awkward time for Trump, hours before he hosted religious leaders at the White House for a National Prayer Day event, which the first lady did not attend.

Giuliani, the former NY mayor and ex-U.S. attorney who Trump hired to join his legal team last month, first revealed on Wednesday night and Thursday morning that Trump had paid back the money to Cohen, who had said previously that he paid Daniels out of his own pocket and without Trump's knowledge.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders claims Mr Trump did not know his reimbursement was for a payoff to Stormy Daniels.

There would be the award ceremony of the annual UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize on the evening of May 2. On the other hand, the media's watchdog role is crucial to hold governments and institutions accountable.

"The first awareness I had was during the interview last night", Sanders admitted.

"From a lawyer's standpoint, I want to argue it out in a public forum", she said.

I suspect the answer is a combination of the three.

In early April the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided Cohen's home, office and hotel room.

The FBI was seeking records about the non-disclosure agreement.

But by Thursday afternoon, when Giuliani undertook his second interview with BuzzFeed News in just over 14 hours, it was clear that Trump's new outside lawyer in the Russian Federation investigation had taken on a much larger role - helping to manage Trump's image as well as his legal standing. No campaign finance violations, no crime of any kind.

- Cohen's payment to Daniels would be an in-kind contribution to Trump's campaign. Giuliani later suggested to The Wall Street Journal that while Trump had repaid the $130,000, Cohen had settled the payment to Daniels without Trump's knowledge at the time.

Fire lights up downtown Sao Paulo in 26-storey building blaze
Footage of the building collapsing has been shared online, showing huge flames and billowing black smoke. Firefighter Lt Andre Elias told Globo TV that at least one person had been killed in the collapse.

Trump said his attorney Michael Cohen received a monthly retainer, which he used to pay the actress to sign an agreement not to talk about her allegations and thus "stop the false and extortionist accusations made by her about an affair".

Speaking to reporters on Air Force One several weeks ago, Trump said he did not know about the payment or where the money came from. "Michael's my attorney", he said then. "You'll have to ask Michael Cohen".

Asked if Mr Trump knew about the arrangement, Mr Giuliani said: "He didn't know about the specifics of it, as far as I know".

This could be "a real complication for the government", said former Federal Election Commission Chairman Scott Thomas - for instance, he said, if it was a regular payment and Trump didn't expect accounting of how it was used.

The former NY mayor went on Fox News and casually admitted that the $130,000 was paid by Michael Cohen, a long-time Trump personal lawyer.

Trump said last month that he didn't know about the payment and deferred questions about the matter to Cohen.

"Every American, regardless of their politics, should be outraged by what we have now learned".
