Former Ulster Unionist Party leader Mike Nesbitt tweeted that Kilclooney's comment can only be interpreted as "a racist comment".

Former Ulster Unionist Party MP John Taylor - now Lord John Kilclooney - is facing flak for calling Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar a "typical Indian" on the social media.

He made the comment in a tweet replying to a BBC News story about DUP criticism of Mr Varadkar regarding his visit to Northern Ireland.

Mr Taylor - known as Lord Kilcooney - has refused to delete the tweet and has denied it was racist. "My objective was that the PM (Varadkar) experienced angry Unionists more than Irish PMs experienced", he later tweeted, after being accused of racism.

He withdrew the tweet a few hours later because he had "caused upset and misunderstanding".

The Taoiseach has said he thought the twitter account was "a parody".

She said his latest opinion was a "slur on all Indian men and women using his use of this term "average" and demanded that the Speaker of this House of Lords enhance the matter with the peer.

"I'm definitely no indifferent and distinct have a admiration for Indians". Having told unionists just over a month ago that he recognised statements and actions by the Irish government were unhelpful or intrusive, he follows this up with a visit which no local representative is informed about and none of the other normal protocol is followed.

The report was based on interviews with more than 20 current and former colleagues, Tester said. The White House released records that it says show the allegations were not true.

"We all believe the best outcome for all would be a very close relationship between the United Kingdom and EU", Barnier said. "Anytime I go north of the border, I feel very welcome on all sides".

The peer later claimed his tweet was "not racist" but "shorthand for an Indian surname which I could not spell".

"We want to see all parts of the Agreement operating and I also want to see the great strides that we have made on North/South co-operation continue and grow in the years ahead".

"They have been extremely good and I am delighted, but the behaviour at the moment of the Irish prime minister and Coveney, backed up by the European Union, is actually destroying that relationship and doing considerable damage to it", he said. "That's all I'll say about that", laughed the Taoiseach. It is for real.
