Coli outbreak from romaine lettuce found in Florida

The CDCsaid the current outbreak is unrelated to the multi-state outbreak of E. coli in leafy greens in November and December, because the two strains of E. coli O157:H7 bacteria have different DNA fingerprints. They said they ate romain from grocery stores, at restaurants and residential facilities.
The US Food and Drug Administration said it received confirmation from the Arizona Department of Agriculture that romaine lettuce is no longer being grown or shipped from the Yuma area.
In the meantime, the Yuma growing season has ended, and California is the growing region throughout summer.
Though the contaminated lettuce is thought to come exclusively from the Yuma area, another two dozen farms are under investigation, and the FDA now believes that only the Alaska illnesses were related to Harrison's romaine.
Symptoms of E. coli infection typically include stomach cramps, diarrhea and a low-grade fever, the MDH said.
The condition can be life-threatening in between 5 percent to 10 percent of people infected.
