  • Researchers unravel content of unknown pages of diary of Anne Frank

Two pages of Anne Frank's world-famous diary - which she covered over with brown paper, discovering dirty jokes and a teenager's interest in sex - have been made visible with digital photo-editing techniques.

Anne had covered up the two pages with brown paper, and the researchers were only recently able to use new image processing technology to see what was beneath that paper without actually handling - and potentially destroying - the fragile diary pages.

The Anne Frank House - a museum located at the building where Anne and her family hid - stresses these passages are "not exceptional" in Anne's writing, noting that she also wrote openly about sexual subjects elsewhere. "As mattresses for the soldiers". "One evening he came home and then he saw his friend in bed with his wife, then the man said: 'He gets to and I have to!'"

Writing about prostitution, Frank noted that all "normal" men "go with women, women like that accost them on the street and then they go together", according to The Washington Post.

A spokeswoman from the Anne Frank House said the newly discovered text would be available only in Dutch. "Papa has been there".

In the two years that Frank hid from the Nazis, she wrote about hunger and fear of being discovered, but also celebrity gossip, arguments with her mother and her first kiss.

Researchers at the Anne Frank House discovered the pages while they checking its condition and photographing the pages in 2016 - the notebooks are in storage for safe keeping and only examined once every 10 years.

"Anne Frank writes about sexuality in a disarming way".

Her father, Otto Frank managed to survive the Holocaust and published his daughter's diary in 1947, in hopes it would become a revelation to the agony faced by Jews.

The Independent says she "attempts an answer, addressing an imaginary listener with a lofty tone, using phrases such as "rhythmical movements" to describe sex, and "internal medicament", to refer to contraception".

The Diary of a Young Girl, written while she was holed up with her family in a tiny Amsterdam apartment, delved into her thoughts and provided an insight of what life was like in those terrifying times.

It's believed that the gags were written about three months after her family went into hiding inside the Dutch house.

Ronald Leopold, executive director of the Anne Frank House, told the AP the entry is an early example of how Frank "creates a fictional situation that makes it easier for her to address the sensitive topics that she writes about".

She listed four dirty jokes, and added 33 lines about sex education and prostitutes.

Miss Frank and her sister died in camp, when she was just 15.
