Hamilton put in a dominant performance at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, winning easily and showing Ferrari that Mercedes remains the team to beat in Formula One.

Bottas has had some criticism too, with Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo - among those most likely to replace him - stating after Bahrain that he would have tried to pass Ferrari's race victor Sebastian Vettel rather than settling for second.

Kevin Magnussen of Haas, Charles Leclerc of Sauber and Pierre Gasly of Toro Rosso also took part, with most other teams using junior and development drivers. His teammate Daniel Ricciardo, not to be left out of the highlight package, spun behind the virtual safety vehicle. Next up, it's Mercedes who have overcome a slow start to the season to be frontrunners in the constructor's championship.

Such was the pace of Hamilton in clean air ahead that by the 15th lap, he had already opened a 6.4-second gap on Vettel.

His situation is also a lot more comfortable than Vettel's, with the German - also a four-times world champion - now off the podium for three races in a row. After initial investigations, Haas made a decision to end its running for the day after 76 laps, though the team ended up fourth on the timing screens as a result of a hypersoft tire run in the morning session. Vettel finished fourth on a frustrating weekend for Ferrari. Bottas was in first place with just three laps remaining when his right-rear tyre blew to deny him the win in the most frustrating fashion. Vettel appeared to have a better pace at times but never got close enough to attempt an overtake on the Dutchman.

Europe seeking quick solution to save Iran nuclear deal -Mogherini
European participants in the nuclear deal with Iran should provide within 60 days guarantees on the preservation of the agreement.

The Finn retired, managing to drive slowly back to the pit lane. But that was an inherited triumph that Hamilton himself described as "empty".

When the Briton came out, he was smack in the middle of the two Red Bulls, but beyond DRS range of Verstappen.

Red Bull brought in Ricciardo first on the 33rd lap, then Verstappen a lap later.

Lewis Hamilton started on pole, had a good start and refused to look back for the rest of the race.

And so he did, shooting a 3-under-par 69 to finish in a six-way tie for 11th place, seven shots behind victor Webb Simpson. Not to really mis-hit a shot and only shoot three under par is just weird, because I played much better than that'.

A Virtual Safety Car (VSC) was deployed when Ocon lost power and parked his car on the side of the track.

Bottas hit the front as the half hour mark struck.

The Finn, Mercedes teammate to four-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton, would have been a victor in Azerbaijan last month but for suffering a puncture three laps from the end while leading.

Vettel hinted that this was making the biggest difference between Mercedes, which won the race with Lewis Hamilton, and Ferrari throughout the weekend.
