Syrian President Bashar Assad traveled to Sochi, Russia, to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, The Associated Press reported.

Mr Putin's spokesman said Mr Assad had chose to "send a delegation to the UN" to discuss reforming the country's constitution.

Putin said that along with giving a boost to a political process, it is important "to take necessary steps towards rebuilding the Syrian economy, as well as settle long-pending hard, but pressing humanitarian issues".

According to the report, Putin congratulated Assad on the "big achievement" recorded by the Syrian army in the war against terrorism. He also visited Putin in Moscow in October 2015, soon after Russian Federation launched its military operation in Syria.
