Maximum sustained winds were near 40 miles per hour with higher gusts.

The storm is expected to approach the USA northern Gulf Coast on the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

Alberto will likely make landfall late Monday or early Tuesday somewhere between Western Florida and Coastal Louisiana.

At 5 p.m. Subtropical Storm Alberto was 170 miles southwest of the Dry Tortugas. These are the locations most likely to feel tropical storm force winds over 40mph.

"The primary effects we will see from this storm in west central and southwest Florida will be heavy rainfall, isolated thunderstorms, gusty winds, and risky marine conditions", the weather service forecast said.

The Reds boss told reporters in the wake of a 3-1 defeat: "It's a really serious injury and the shock of the boys was obvious". But the Real skipper sent a tweet to Salah, wishing him a speedy recovery.

The warning area stretches from Mobile, Alabama across the coast along the Florida Panhandle.

Gov. Phil Bryant has signed a State of Emergency and an Executive Order authorizing the use of the Mississippi National Guard as Sub-Tropical Storm Alberto advances to the Gulf of Mexico. Areas that see repeated storms may see over three inches of rain by late Monday.

The first named storm of the 2018 hurricane season roiled parts of coastal Mexico and Cuba with rip currents and unsafe surf before plodding northward Saturday.

He said it was not unusual for tropical systems to form outside of the official Atlantic Hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30 annually.

Even though South Florida is not in the projected path of Alberto, the region is on the east side - the wettest side - of the storm.

The current forecast has five to 10 inches of rain hitting eastern Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, western Tennessee and the western portion of Florida's panhandle.

A gradual strengthening is expected through the weekend as it moves north. The Weather Service office in Jacksonville said the disturbed weather could create an elevated risk of rip currents at the beach.

Once Alberto merges with the upper level low and really starts to strengthen it will become more tropical in nature and lose its sub title becoming just Tropical Storm Alberto.

"This system will bring excessive rainfall to the watch area beginning Saturday evening and continuing through Tuesday evening".

That Flood Watch is in effect from 2 p.m. Saturday until 8 p.m. Monday. "Any shift to the right and those totals could go down", National Weather Service meteorologist Christopher Bannan said. "Showers and squalls will contain heavy rain and occasional lightning with gusty, possibly damaging winds".

Irvine, Los Angeles high on United States cities' population growth list
San Antonio added the most residents in the nation, up 24,208 residents to 1,511,946 That's a 1.63 percent growth. Which means that Texas surpassed California's share of the top 15 list, with five cities making the cut.

As we have seen in years past, environmental conditions sometimes allow for development before the hurricane season begins.
