  • Peru skipper Paolo Guerrero cleared for World Cup as CAS lifts doping ban

Peru captain Paolo Guerrero has been cleared to play in this summer's World Cup after having his December 2017 ban for cocaine use overturned by a Swiss federal court.

Guerrero was banned after testing positive for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, following Peru's World Cup qualifier with Argentina in October a year ago, though he claimed this was unintentional and was the result of taking a herbal remedy.

The case has attracted widespread attention in the build-up to the tournament, with Guerrero claiming he ingested the banned substance after drinking an aromatic tea made from coca leaves.

"While Guerrero has won a temporary reprieve from the Swiss federal court, it is unfortunate that he has to endure such a protracted legal wrangle that is still not over".

The report came out after Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his contacts with Russians. He was also unfamiliar with rumors of a Dan Conner-centric Roseanne spinoff , saying "you've heard more than I have".

"The President of the court took into account the setbacks of all types that the appellant, already aged 34, would suffer if (he) was prevented from participating in a competition that will be the culmination of his career as a footballer", it said in a statement.

"As the believer I am, I want to first thank God, who I've always believed in, and my family", Guerrero said in a statement. "There are no impossible dreams, because it's now proven when Peruvians unite, anything is possible".

Switzerland's supreme court says it has granted an interim order to freeze Guerrero's 14-month ban for a positive doping test. Check out a few tweets from jubilant Peruvians below.

CAS had imposed the ban this month, upholding an appeal by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

During the nighttime battle, 43 terrorists were killed and six vehicles equipped with large-caliber machine guns were destroyed. The incident happened after Daesh terrorists attacked an artillery battery belonging to the Syrian army.

So far, the CAS panel has only issued its decision, without grounds. The sports court decided a ban through January 2019 was an "appropriate sanction.in light of Mr Guerrero's degree of fault". Peru will face France, Denmark and Australia in Group C.

Guerrero had been given a boost earlier today when the CAS said they would not object if the Tribunal ruled he is eligible to play.

Edwin Oviedo, president of the Peruvian Football Federation, described the news as bringing "immense joy. for all Peruvian people".
