The businessman who lobbied USA politicians to impose tough sanctions on Russian officials has been detained by police in Spain following a Russian arrest warrant.
Browder, who is the head of the Hermitage Capital investment fund, said Spanish police took him away when he was heading to meet with prosecutors on Wednesday to share evidence on property investments in Spain with funds allegedly linked to Magnitsky's murder.
This was followed by a photograph from the back of the police auto, with the words: "In the back of the Spanish police vehicle going to the station on the Russian arrest warrant".
A few minutes later he sent another: "In the back of the Spanish police auto going to the station on the Russian arrest warrant". The attack was the sixth time Russian Federation had used Interpol against Browder, who campaigns for Russian Federation sanctions.

A Russian court sentenced Browder to nine years in prison in absentia in December after finding him guilty of deliberate bankruptcy and tax evasion.
Browder asserted that his detainment came because Russian Federation had obtained an active Interpol Red Notice, or a formal request that one Interpol member country arrest a suspect based on a valid warrant issued by another member country.
In a resolution, the Council of Europe called on all member countries, including Spain, to "refrain from carrying out arrests on the basis of red notices when they have serious concerns that the notice in question could be abusive". "They want something in return", Browder told CBS News on Donald Trump Jr's meeting with a Russian lawyer in 2016.
A National Police spokeswoman said that William Browder had been detained on Wednesday morning in Madrid and taken to a police station to check on the arrest warrant. Police found out there that the order was no longer valid, she said.
