Media speculation suggests United will pay Shaktar about £52 million for the 25-year-old, who is in Brazil's squad for the World Cup in Russian Federation.

Manchester United announced on Tuesday they have agreed a deal to sign Brazilian worldwide midfielder Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk as Jose Mourinho seeks the magic formula to topple Premier League Champions Manchester City.

He made a return to Shakhtar in 2015 after a season away in Brazil and scored a further 21 goals for the club while also adding more winner's medals to his cabinet.

Worldwide team-mate Willian is preparing for Brazil's World Cup campaign alongside Fred at their pre-tournament training base in London and told reporters the big-money transfer had been a topic of conversation.

Samuel Umtiti: Barcelona defender signs new five-year deal
Umtiti joined Barca for €25m from Lyon in 2016 and he quickly established himself alongside Pique in the middle of the back four. Transfer speculation soon arose, and it seemed to have an impact on the centre-back, who regressed as the campaign wore on.

After passing the exams and even signing the contract, Fred posed for photos and videos with the Manchester United shirt last Monday.

He will become the fourth Brazilian midfielder to play for Manchester United, following Kleberson, Anderson and Rodrigo Possebon. "He's a versatile midfielder, can play any position in the centre of the park, but his best role is as a box-to-box midfielder, because of his capacity to defend, create and finish".

United fans are unlikely to get much of a glimpse of Fred at the World Cup in Russian Federation, though, as he is yet to start an worldwide under current coach Tite.

Although a Brazilian by birth, Eduardo played for Croatia on the worldwide stage.

England include unlucky goalkeeper on their bench for pre-World Cup friendly
However, Southgate's selection conundrum in goal remains, even if Pickford conceded against the Super Eagles. England kick off their World Cup campaign on June 18, with their fixture against Tunisia in Volgograd.

Although the club is renowned for its history with Brazilian players, some non-Brazilian players have also established themselves with the former Europa League champions. One ex-teammate told the South China Morning Post: "Fred's a good player skilfully, though he's not physically strong or quick".

The Red Devils have been linked with a move to sign Fred in the summer transfer window following Michael Carrick's retirement at the end of the 2017-18 season.

Manchester United are getting a fine player for their money. So it remains to be seen how Fred will cope in the Premier League. I am proud of him.' Lucescu said. The 25-year old can be used in a three-man midfield along with Pogba and Matic.
