White House official says Trump misspoke

Casting about for a few more votes and better press on behalf of the "compromise" immigration legislation he wants the House to vote on next week, Paul Ryan has seized on the red-hot controversy over families being separated at the US border to make his ever-evolving mix of provisions more appealing. That changed Friday morning when President Donald Trump walked out to the White House's North Lawn.

House Republican leaders circulated their draft immigration bill on Thursday, after weeks of pain-staking negotiations between two warring GOP factions.

"For those who are already on the line or questioning it that might give them additional pause", Rep. Mark Walker, R-N.C., the chair of the Republican Study Committee, a large group of conservative House Republicans, told ABC News.

There are no limits on how many people can receive that legal immigration status, and critics said it would allow the Dreamers - after they win US citizenship - to petition for their parents to also become citizens. "If you're a Republican and you're facing a challenging political environment and the president who is very popular in your district, not mine, says that he's against this bill, why in the world would you vote in favor of it?"

"I just don't even know why there aren't uprisings all over the country, and maybe there will be when people realize that this is a policy that they defend", she said. The bill includes other provisions nearly certain to be rejected by Democrats, including money for a border wall and new limits on family-based immigration.

Korea no longer nuclear threat, tells Americans to "sleep well"
He said negotiations would recommence "in the next week or so". More: Democrats blast Trump for concessions he granted in U.S. Bush administrations both did so.

"Go for it! WIN!" Both bills have that.

Lawmakers from both parties have been criticizing the Justice Department's tough new policy that requires immigrant children to be separated from their parents at the border.

But a senior White House official later said Trump, confused, had believed his Fox interviewer was asking about a now abandoned effort Republican moderates that would have forced House of Representatives votes on a handful of bills and likely led to the passage of liberal-leaning versions that Republican party leaders oppose.

"I hate the children being taken away", he said.

He made the comment Friday after Mr. Trump told reporters that he won't sign a "moderate" bill. The White House sought the change.

Trump says watchdog report wrong in claiming no FBI bias: Fox interview
Trump said more important than what he called "the agreement" - "I have a good relationship with Kim Jong-un". I want to thank Chairman Kim for taking the first bold step toward a bright new future for his people.

Trump's surprise comments provide the latest evidence that no one in the White House but Trump speaks for Trump.

On Wednesday, House Speaker Paul Ryan said Republicans were working "hand-in-glove" with the White House on the proposal, and White House adviser Stephen Miller expressed support for the bill in a private meeting with Republicans.

In response to the rally, Denham released a statement to The Washington Post expressing optimism that the Republican House bill would end the practice. Administration officials have said they need more money for detention beds to house the influx of immigrants resulting from the administration's "zero tolerance" policy of stepped-up border enforcement.

"He keeps us all excited about how we are going to get things done", Rep. Dennis Ross, a Republican from Florida and supporter of the compromise bill, told CNN.
