The top-seeded Aussie heaped disappointment on Britain's home hope Johanna Konta for a second successive year in the Nottingham Open as she ran out a three-set victor in a tight and compelling final.

She came into this match after a relatively comfortable opening few games in the tournament, in which she did not lose a single set.

In a reverse of last year's final, Konta beat the Croatian 6-2 6-3 and will now play top seed Ashleigh Barty, who overwhelmed Naomi Osaka 6-3 6-4 in the other semi-final.

In the second match on court, the British number one breezed through the opening set in half-an-hour before, with Vekic having called for the trainer and looking ready to go for further treatment, the players were forced off by rain.

Phil Mickelson Explains What Happened On No. 13 Green
In a day that may have otherwise been remembered for the playing conditions, Mickelson provided a weird and unexpected moment. The incident on Mickelson's 48th birthday brought to mind a similar episode by John Daly at the 1999 U.S.

But the methodical Konta kept her composure and, against an increasingly erratic opponent, won four games in a row to take the first set.

"It is never easy with a rain delay, so I am very happy to have battled through, to keep my mind on the task at hand and do the best I can with the conditions".

Australia's Ashleigh Barty has continued her excellent run of form by booking her place in the final of the Nottingham Open and a clash with home favourite Johanna Konta. Despite this, Vekić was able to get herself on the scoreboard in the following game with a much-needed hold of serve.

"I feel great today - coming into a final, the adrenaline gets you going, but I feel like I've been playing well all week", the world No.17 said. "I'm pretty pleased with that", she added.

Southgate wants England players to entertain nation's fans
Manchester City duo John Stones and Kyle Walker were also sat together for the flight to Russian Federation . So we are all here with the same mentality, all wanting to win, all wanting to play.

But Konta was not to be denied and overcame a couple of minor wobbles to win through. Vekić was unhappy with a decision resulting in her calling a shot out in the middle of the point, meaning that she subsequently lost the point for speaking during play.

With the situation very much the same as it was previous year, the two players meet with six straight-set wins.

"I lost to Jo here previous year, so I think I can go in and play some pretty free tennis".
