Trump warns Harley-Davidson: 'We won't forget'

  • Hundreds of trade groups rally behind effort to limit Trump's tariff power

Trump's current attacks came after Harley announced on Monday that the company would shift some of its production outside of the United States due to Trump's trade battles and the European Union's retaliatory tariffs against the US.

It was unclear what taxes Trump was referring to, and why the company might have to pay them, since it will maintain production in the United States for USA customers.

In January, Harley-Davidson said it would close a plant in Kansas City, Missouri, due to a sharp drop in U.S. demand for its motorcycles, but said it would consolidate work done there into its plant in Pennsylvania.

"Harley-Davidson maintains a strong commitment to US -based manufacturing which is valued by riders globally", the company said Monday.

Macron: Sanction EU countries refusing to accept migrants
According to Mission Lifeline , who rescued 224 migrants at sea, they are still seeking a port of destination. The decline is even starker compared with 2016: It equals just 19 per cent of the same period in 2016.

A Harley-Davidson should never be built in another country-never!

But Trump says the tariffs are just an excuse and that the company had existing plans to move. To avoid raising its prices and risk losing business in the valuable European market, Harley-Davidson said it would shift some bike production overseas. "We lost Dollars 151 billion with the European Union, which puts up great barriers so that our farmers can't trade", he said.

Shifting more production overseas will take the company between 9 to 18 months, Harley-Davidson said.

Harley already has assembly plants in India and Brazil.

"If they move, watch, it will be the beginning of the end - they surrendered, they quit! Harley must know that they won't be able to sell back into USA without paying a big tax!"

"We see tremendous opportunity, particularly in Southeast Asia and the investment in the plant in Thailand to get around the egregious tariffs and duties, is a part of accessing a very important market", Harley-Davidson chief executive Matthew Levatich said in late April 24.

That statement drew criticism from Eurasia Group president Ian Bremmer, who said on Twitter, "If the Germans started saying this about BMWs or the Japanese about Toyotas, that's a whole lot of Americans out of work".

The relationship between Trump and Harley-Davidson has gone from a love affair to a bad breakup in a matter of months. "Harley must know that they won't be able to sell back into U.S.without paying a big tax!"
