  • Protesters, lawmaker arrested in U.S. Senate building over immigration

Almost 600 activists, protesting Donald Trump's "zero-tolerance" policy against illegal immigrants, have been arrested after staging an occupy sit-in at the Hart Senate Office building in the nation's capital.

There was no word on whether she felt outrage at the deaths of Americans at the hands of illegal immigrants - and no word on how the protesters felt about parents who illegally send their own children across the border to face many dangers alone.

Their chant "Say it loud, say it clear, immigrants are welcome here" echoed through the building, drawing scores of Senate staff to upper mezzanine floors from where they watched the commotion.

Almost 600 women dressed in white and seated on the floor of the Hart Senate office building were arrested by Capitol Police on Thursday. The local demonstration comes just days after dozens were arrested when protesting a visit from Attorney General Jeff Sessions in Southern California. Elizabeth Warren of MA joined in solidarity with the protesters.

She and others are undaunted after almost 600 women wearing white and railing against the now-abandoned separation policy were arrested Thursday in Washington, D.C. With demonstrations emerging nationwide, immigrant advocacy groups say they're thrilled - and surprised - to see the issue gaining traction among those not tied to immigration.

Migrant children are not permitted to be incarcerated with their parents and are kept in separate facilities maintained by the Department of Health and Human Services.

But the Trump administration points out that most of those migrants never showed up for court.

It is part of a larger movement "to tell Donald Trump and his administration to stop separating kids from their parents", according to the national Families Belong Together website.

In his monologue Monday, he added, "When Trump heard, he was like, 'I love RAICES - they're my favorite peanut butter cup". Jimmy Fallon has never been a fan of talking about politics. "That's all I'm here to do, is make you happy".

Six days after that order was signed, only six children had been reunited with their parents - meaning more than 2,000 children were still in limbo, feeding the furor and raising questions about whether the government actually has a plan to reunify families.

Following a national and global outcry over the chaotic splitting up of families that left parents in the dark about what happened to their children, President Donald Trump reversed course.

"To finally have people on board wanting to take action, marching, taking to the streets, it's been motivating for us as advocates because we have to keep going", Rivas said.

House Democrat Pramila Jayapal was among those arrested as she called for others to join the demonstrations.

According to Mission Lifeline , who rescued 224 migrants at sea, they are still seeking a port of destination. The decline is even starker compared with 2016: It equals just 19 per cent of the same period in 2016.

"It's not just political", she said.
