  • Supreme Court upholds travel ban in major win for Trump

In a 5-4 decision, the court upheld President Trump's restriction on people traveling from certain Muslim-majority countries.

Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the majority opinion statement that Trump's government had successfully demonstrated national security reasons for the ban. In its latest version, which was issued in September 2017, the ban applied to those travelling from Syria, Libya, Iran, Yemen, Chad, Somalia, North Korea and Venezuela.

"President Trump's original sin of targeting Muslims can not be cured by throwing other countries onto his enemies list", Romero added.

The US Supreme Court has sided with the Trump administration, upholding the travel ban it had imposed on seven Muslim-majority nations.

The president also said that the ruling was a "moment of profound vindication" after months of "hysterical commentary from the media and Democratic politicians".

He also urged North Korea to "continue (its) consultations with China" as it negotiates with the United States, the report said. As of now, there is little proof that North Korea intends to go down that road, longtime North Korea observers say.

Trump also gloated over "TRAVEL BAN" decision on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Trump celebrated the ruling, tweeting, "SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS TRUMP TRAVEL BAN". You might remember that in - when the first version of the travel ban was put forward, the Trump administration was making that argument, that decisions that the president made concerning who could come into the country were not even subject to judicial review. The initial order, signed one week after he took office in January past year, led to days of nationwide protests and chaos at airports across the country.

"It leaves undisturbed a policy first advertised openly and unequivocally as a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States" because the policy now masquerades behind a facade of national-security concerns", Justice Sotomayor wrote.

President Trump, for once, was lost for words at the Conservative-driven victory.

Trump's original travel ban - whose official title was Executive Order 13769 - sparked chaos across USA airports after its implementation last February.

"America is not ideal, we understand that, we don't pretend otherwise, but this is a step backwards", said Moh Kilani.

"A reasonable observer would conclude that the Proclamation was motivated by anti-Muslim animus", they contend, adding that "ignoring the facts, misconstruing our legal precedent, and turning a blind eye to the pain and suffering the Proclamation inflicts upon countless families and individuals, many of whom are United States citizens".

The Court ruled that the law violated the free speech rights of Christian facilities.
