A Facebook spokesperson confirmed in an email that the social network has enforced a 30-day time out for Jones after he was found to have violated Facebook's Community Standards.

The videos have been removed and Infowars and Jones' pages "are close to being unpublished given recent community standards violations", Facebook said in a statement. The action comes just days after YouTube pulled four Infowars videos and banned the outlet from livestreaming its shows for 90 days.

The ban doesn't apply to InfoWars itself. One of those videos, titled "How to Prevent Liberalism", which showed a young boy being pushed to the ground by an adult male, is no longer hosted on InfoWars' Facebook page.

"Our Community Standards make it clear that we prohibit content that encourages physical harm [bullying], or attacks someone based on their religious affiliation or gender identity [hate speech]", a Facebook spokesperson told Mashable. "We also have a clear three strikes policy and we terminate channels when they receive three strikes in three months". The Alex Jones Channel received a strike back in February, but that has since expired.

The parents of two children who died in the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting sued Jones for defamation in April, accusing him and InfoWars of engaging in a campaign of "false, cruel, and risky assertions". The suspension does not stop other page administrators from posting to his personal page or the page of Infowars. While that video didn't prompt Facebook to action, apparently bringing up the controversy did.

Jones has been widely criticized for promoting untrue, virulent hypotheses about tragic events like the 2001 terrorist attacks on World Trade Center in NY that killed almost 3,000 people and the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in CT that killed 26 students and staff. The company still claims that the video doesn't violate its community standards. At the time, the company appeared unwilling to say Jones' content violated its policies.

Facebook Product VP Fidji Simo echoed CEO Mark Zuckerberg's careful language about the site's handling of InfoWars, saying the social media site attempts to find the balance between free expression and safety of its 2 billion users.
